A Very Quick Response to “7 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Outbreak Would Fail (Quickly)”

So I read the post titled “7 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Outbreak Would Fail (Quickly)” by David Dietle (which can be found here), and found it, while somewhat entertaining, rather horribly misinformed.

I was going to list the reasons why, but realized I didn’t really need to. That post, I believe, was more meant to Placate the fears of others over the zombie apocalypse, especially relevant to many now with the situation in Florida.

BUT, if anyone wants to know why what he wrote was wrong, it was because of such a lack of resources. He came to very quick and easy decisions about every ‘point’, and all of which can be disputed by actual research. I am, of course talking about;

This is “Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Zombies” by renowned author and zombie-awareness spokesman, Matt Mogk, founder of the Zombie Research Society, who earned a masters degree from the New York Tisch School of the Arts where he specialized in Horror Cinema. He was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant for science, which he used to research for the above book. Oh, and he trained with the French Foreign Legion. Oh, and he doesn’t write for Cracked.com .

He NEVER fucks around

Anyways, the book, despite it’s gimmicky cover, approaches the idea of a zombie virus in a very serious, realistic manner, with both a look at the origins of the ‘zombie’ and the implications of an uprising. He has interviewed and uses references of dozens of the world’s leading virologists, biologists, and other important factors for the possibility of zombies, and can very well lead you to reading medical journals and scientific papers, which it strongly suggests you read for reference (he uses excerpts of these other projects to work the case, and the excerpts are both for, and against, the possibility of zombies).

Anyways, what started as a response to what I read has now mutated into a review for Matt Mogk’s book, which is one of the best, most intelligent and thought-provoking books I’ve read. And trust me, every single one of David’s points are addressed in the book.

But ultimately, it boils down to what you wantto know. If you want to placate your mind so you can rest easy at night where the zombies can’t touch you, go here. If you want to know the cold, hard facts and possibilities, go here.

Oh, one bit of advice though; if you decide to read the book, don’t do so before going to bed. And honestly, if you’re easily scared by real-life disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes, swine flu) you might not want to read it. It can… terrify.

Remember; What you don’t know, can eat you.

Have a good day, all.
